Giraffes Can't Dance!
A Sharon Education Foundation grant funded project.
After reading the book, Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andred, students in Mrs. Martin's first grade class drew a giraffe concentrating on big shapes, i.e. a big circle for the belly – long, curved rectangle for the neck, rectangles for the legs, and an oval for head. They colored the giraffes using yellow or orange then add spots and marks using a brown or black marker. Finally, they cut it out. They also created the background for the giraffe, using a double loaded brush technique and an etching technique for the grass. To add a technology component to the project, students used the animation app DoInk to make their giraffes dance. The dancing giraffes were combined with their original art work to create an Augmented Reality trigger (Aura) using Aurasma. The Aura also contains a video of the student speaking about their work.
